- Women trained through community-based model will teach others, digital empowerment.
Cyber Sakhi: Reliance Foundation and Center for Development of Advanced Computing have together started a special campaign to make rural women across the country safe in the digital world. The aim of this initiative is to make about 10 lakh women aware of cyber security in the next three years. This campaign has been named e-SafeHER, the objective of which is to create Cyber Sakhi in every village who should spread information about safe internet use in their community.
How will this program work?
According to media reports, this initiative will be run under the Information Security Education and Awareness (ISEA) of the Ministry of Electronics and Information Technology. In this, C-DAC will prepare training related things and adapt it in local languages while Reliance Foundation will implement it at the grassroots level.
The program will first start from Madhya Pradesh and Odisha after which it will be spread across the country. Audio-visual and multi-language modules will be used for training so that more and more women can learn easily.
Danger increases with increasing digital use
The use of smartphones, online payments and digital services is increasing rapidly among women in rural areas. Along with this, the risk of online fraud, data theft and cyber attacks has also increased. Keeping this challenge in mind, this initiative has been started so that women can keep themselves safe while taking advantage of the digital world and avoid any kind of online risk.
Emphasis on community based model
The most special thing about this program is its community-driven model. The women taking training in this will themselves work to spread awareness in their area. That is, the women who receive training will become Cyber Sakhi and teach others about cyber security. With this, this campaign can be spread on a large scale without making any new system.
Steps towards empowering women digitally
Isha Ambani believes that today women of rural India are increasingly coming online. In such a situation, it is important not only to connect them to the Internet but also to teach them how to use it safely. Through this initiative, women will not only be given information about cyber security but will also be made self-reliant and confident so that they can take full advantage of the digital world.
