Telegram Ban In India: Just a few days after banning Telegram, the government has made serious allegations against this messaging platform. The government has said in Delhi High Court that Telegram app has become the new dark web. Criminals, cyber fraudsters, fundamentalist groups and other dangerous elements are using it to escape the attention of the law. Now this platform is being used to run many illegal activities.
How did this matter reach the court?
To prevent the incident of paper leak in NEET Re Exam, the government has imposed a temporary ban on Telegram till June 22. Besides, its message editing feature has also been ordered to be disabled till June 30. Telegram had approached Delhi High Court saying this order was wrong. The CEO of Telegram had said in his statement that instead of those who leaked the paper, the government has punished 15 crore users of this platform. The company had filed a petition in the Delhi High Court demanding relief.
Government made serious allegations
According to the report of India Today, the government has made sensational allegations against Telegram in the affidavit submitted in the court. The government has told the court that Telegram is being used for circulating leaked exams, cyber fraud, terrorism-linked propaganda, drug trafficking, finance crimes and obscene content related to children. Now this has become the new dark web. Criminals are now using Telegram to post links on channels that are linked to dark web forums. Due to this, it has become difficult for the agencies to track the criminals. Due to its privacy and anonymity features, it remains the choice of criminal networks.
Criminals hiding their identities through privacy features – Government
The government has said that on Telegram, users can hide phone numbers and their IDs, which makes it difficult for investigators to identify the real people running the accounts. Due to its privacy features, this platform is being used in drug trafficking, cyber crime, terrorism, child exploitation and fraud etc. The government has also alleged that violent fundamentalist content and material related to terrorist organizations is being spread through Telegram groups.
