Gurbaz said in Shubhankar Mishra's podcast, “The most heartbreaking match for me was the 2022 Asia Cup defeat against Pakistan. People in the country were very hurt. Many people cried. Some people committed suicide here. We have very emotional people here. We also feel sad because we play for these people. Even today when I am talking to you about that match, those sad memories come alive. Whenever I go to the Sharjah Stadium. Even today I remember how we lost that match, even though we didn't bat well but lost in the end.

Gurbaz also admitted that the victory against Pakistan in the 2023 ICC World Cup was memorable.
Gurbaz said, “We are cricketers. We play for the people of Afghanistan. Our happiness lies in the happiness of our people.
