Afghanistan's defeat to Pakistan in Asia Cup 2022 broke the hearts of the fans.

New Delhi. In the last few years, the rivalry between Pakistan and Afghanistan has increased both on and off the field. One of the most memorable matches between these two teams took place in the 2023 ICC World Cup. When the team led by Hashmatullah Shahidi defeated Babar Azam's team by eight wickets while chasing 283 runs. This victory was so special for the Afghan players that it is talked about even today.

Before tasting this victory in the year 2023, Afghanistan had to play a heart-breaking match against Pakistan in the T20 format of the 2022 Asia Cup. Mohammad Nabi's team had given a target of 130 runs, which Babar and his team achieved with great difficulty. There was also an argument between Afghan bowlers Farid Ahmed and Asif Ali during the match. Pakistan won in the last over on the strength of Naseem Shah.

Many cricket fans in Afghanistan could not tolerate this defeat and took extreme steps. Wicketkeeper-batsman Rahmanullah Gurbaz revealed. This defeat felt so deeply in the country that some fans took steps like suicide because they could not bear the defeat.

Gurbaz said in Shubhankar Mishra's podcast, “The most heartbreaking match for me was the 2022 Asia Cup defeat against Pakistan. People in the country were very hurt. Many people cried. Some people committed suicide here. We have very emotional people here. We also feel sad because we play for these people. Even today when I am talking to you about that match, those sad memories come alive. Whenever I go to the Sharjah Stadium. Even today I remember how we lost that match, even though we didn't bat well but lost in the end.

Gurbaz also admitted that the victory against Pakistan in the 2023 ICC World Cup was memorable.
Gurbaz said, “We are cricketers. We play for the people of Afghanistan. Our happiness lies in the happiness of our people. If you ask the people here about the most memorable match, they will mention the win against Pakistan in the 2023 ODI World Cup. As a cricketer, I have no personal enmity with any cricketer. Our fans want us to beat Pakistan every time.”
