New Delhi. There is an old saying that one drinks even the burnt buttermilk of milk. The way Vaibhav Suryavanshi clashed with the opposing team in Sri Lanka was enough to open the eyes of the board. That is why BCCI Secretary Devjit Saikia said that it is necessary to gradually include a 15-year-old school child in the senior team, that is why the board has decided that Vaibhav Suryavanshi’s parents should accompany him on the white ball tour of Ireland and England.
Suryavanshi, who has been selected in the Indian T20 squad for the first time, has been included in the squad for seven matches (two against Ireland and five against England), with the tour starting on June 26 in Belfast. Saikia said, “See, all the senior level national teams do not have a 14 or 15 year old player. After many decades, we have someone like Vaibhav Suryavanshi.” He said, “There was a time when Sachin Tendulkar (16 years old at the time of his Test debut) came into the team at such a young age. When such a young child is part of the senior team, many problems can arise.
Parents will go to England with Vaibhav
Saikia further said, “To help Vaibhav feel comfortable and adapt to the adult environment, where the other players are above 18 years of age and the team management is also an adult, we felt this would be helpful.” He said, “We are doing this because we feel that it will ease many of the problems related to Vaibhav.” Saikia also gave the example of going on a school tour with senior teachers. He said, “When a school child goes on a tour, usually a senior person is accompanying him.
Vaibhav is still a child. He has just come out of school or is probably in his last year of school.” He said, “So we thought it right that his parents should go with him. I am happy that his parents are taking good care of their child, who will be an asset for Indian cricket not only now but for the next two-three decades.
Board will not take action against Vaibhav
Saikia also spoke on the speculations running on social media that the Indian board will take action against Vaibhav Suryavanshi for his heated argument with Sri Lanka A team player Vishen Halambage in the recent match. There was an argument between the two after the Sri Lankan player made provocative remarks and Suryavanshi pushed Halambage when he came near the Indian player. Saikia said, “There is a lot going on on social media that BCCI is going to take action.
Do you want BCCI to go into the field of match refereeing?” He said, “BCCI is not an authority, we should not go into that area where the match referee and umpire are the main people who can take decisions on any incident that happens on the field.” He said, “Whatever happened was part of the game and BCCI has no role in it. The role is of match referee. If something is going wrong, he will take a decision, the umpires will take a decision and there is a system.”
