New Delhi. Does fitness determine a long career? When 44 year old MS Dhoni can still play in IPL, why not 37 year old Virat Kohli? Kohli’s fitness, hunger and consistency are still keeping him at the top of the game and the question now being discussed is how long will he continue playing.

Virat Kohli’s hunger for runs, motivation, mastery and fitness all together have taken him to the pinnacle of the game. After winning two consecutive IPL titles with Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB), the question now arises whether Kohli still has the same hunger? This great player of the modern era has achieved almost everything in cricket.

Virat Kohli till IPL 2030?

They won IPL 2025, ending a drought of 18 years, then made a brilliant chase against Gujarat Titans (GT) in the final of IPL 2026 and won the title for RCB and made the team champion for the second consecutive time. In this way, RCB became the third team to defend the IPL title. After winning two consecutive titles, Menon said that he thinks Kohli will play for at least three to four more years. This means that his IPL career can go till 2030, however, if Kohli wants, he can extend his retirement further but the way he suddenly said goodbye to Test cricket, it is difficult to say anything.

RCB and Virat are two sides of the same coin, Menon told CNBC TV18 that he has always been associated with RCB, we have never seen him separated from the team, and his association will remain in future also. He further said, “He will definitely play for the next three to four years. He is fit, his hunger never ends. In this IPL season, you saw his energy, runs and attitude, everything was fantastic. There is no problem in playing for three-four years.”

Kohli is not slowing down yet

Menon is not wrong, now Kohli is not just in the role of anchor who used to manage the team. Under the leadership of Andy Flower, Mo Bobat and Dinesh Karthik, RCB has adopted a new strategy, due to which the team has become the most stable till date. Just as he changed himself in ODI cricket, Kohli has also reshaped the T20 game. Even after retirement from T20 International, he is performing brilliantly in IPL and has adapted himself according to the demands of modern cricket. The most important thing is not just his runs, but the way he scores runs. His strike rate is above 150, while the average is more than 55. Interestingly, his strike rate in the historic season of IPL 2016 was 152, whereas this year it reached 166. This is called real “reinvention” i.e. molding oneself anew.
