‘Those three overs for us…’, whom did Gujarat captain Shubman Gill blame after the defeat against RCB?

Shubman Gill Statement: The 34th match of IPL 2026 was played last Friday between Royal Challengers Bangalore and Gujarat Titans. In the match held at Chinnaswamy Stadium, Bengaluru won by 5 wickets. This was Bengaluru’s fifth win and Gujarat’s third defeat in the season. After the match, Gujarat captain Shubman Gill explained why the team had to face defeat.

Gujarat was invited to bat first in the match. The team put a total of 205 runs on the board at the loss of 3 wickets in 20 overs. Although this total may look good, the team completely failed to score runs in 17 to 19 i.e. three overs. The team scored only 17 runs in these three overs. Captain Gill considered this as one of the major reasons for the team’s defeat.

What did Shubman Gill say?

Speaking in the post match presentation, Shubman Gill said, “Yes absolutely, I think between overs 16 to 19, in those three overs we could not hit any boundaries and could not score as many runs as we wanted to score. I think those three overs were very important for us.”

Talking further about the second innings, Gill said, “I mean, after the powerplay was over, I think we were in a good position. The whole game was about taking wickets in the middle overs, which I think we could not do immediately after the powerplay was over.”

What did Gill say when Kohli missed the catch?

Regarding Kohli’s dropped catch on zero runs, Gill said, “I mean, whether the batsman misses the catch or not, it is always difficult for the fielder, but I think it is important that you come back into the game.”

Shubman Gill looked unhappy even with bowling

Talking about bowling, Gill said, “In terms of bowling, I think we had some good chances, but I don’t think we were able to hit the length ball consistently, which is sometimes difficult on this wicket. You know, we did well on some balls, and I think they batted brilliantly in the middle overs.”
