Facebook-Instagram: Nowadays, scam cases are increasing rapidly on Meta platforms like Facebook, Instagram and WhatsApp. Recently, in the investigation of British financial institution Financial Conduct Authority, it came to light that a large number of such advertisements are running on these platforms which deceive people into making wrong investments and earning quick money.
Shocking truth revealed in investigation
During a week-long investigation, more than a thousand suspicious advertisements were found, many of which had already been reported. That means, despite the company being aware of these fake ads, they continued to run on the platform. In these, such promises were being made which were far from reality like huge profits in a short time or guaranteed earnings from risky investments.
No improvement despite repeated complaints
Investigating agencies say that even after complaining several times, there was not much change in the situation. Only a few people are running such fake advertisements again and again in different ways. The company claims that it is continuously working to prevent fraud, but the ground reality appears to be different.
Scam has become a big threat
Fraud has now become one of the most common crimes in Britain and many of these cases start with social media. Users are being duped through advertisements of fake investment schemes, fake bank offers, illegal gambling and wrong medicines.
Law is strict, but there is delay in implementation
Online Safety Act has been implemented in Britain but the part under it regarding strict action on fake advertisements has not yet been fully implemented. For this reason, there is not much strictness being imposed on the companies at present.
A test also revealed that a fake advertisement which claimed to earn 10% every week was easily run on the platform. Whereas in other countries, due to strict rules, such advertisements were immediately stopped.
What is the real problem?
Consumer rights experts believe that this is not a problem of technology but of priorities. If companies spend more resources to prevent scams, such cases may reduce. This whole matter clearly shows that it can be dangerous to trust every advertisement seen on social media. Until the rules and their enforcement are strengthened, users themselves will have to remain cautious, especially from those offers that lure more money in less time.
