AC Tips: During summer, when the air conditioner (AC) runs continuously, people often notice the water coming out of it. Many people think that there is a water tank inside the AC or water is poured into it from outside. But the truth is that the water coming into the AC does not come from anywhere, rather it is the result of a special scientific process. Let us understand where the water in AC comes from and what technology works behind it.
water is hidden in the air
There is always some amount of moisture present in the air around us. Whether the weather is hot or cold, there are very small particles of water in the air which we cannot see with our eyes. When the AC sucks the hot and humid air of the room, then this moisture later turns into water.
How does AC make water?
There is a part inside the air conditioner which is called Evaporator Coil. This coil is very cold. When the hot air of the room hits this cold coil, the moisture present in the air condenses and turns into water droplets.
This process is exactly the same as when a cold water bottle is kept outside, water droplets freeze on its surface. In fact, this water does not come from inside the bottle but is made from the moisture present in the surrounding air.
How does the water come out?
The water formed after the process of condensation collects in the drain pan present inside the AC. After this it is thrown out through a drain pipe. This is the reason why water dripping is often seen near the outdoor unit of the split AC.
If this pipe gets clogged, water may accumulate inside the AC instead of coming out, which may also cause leakage problems.
Water increases in humid weather
During rainy or humid days, more water comes out from the AC. The reason for this is that the level of moisture in the air is high at that time. AC has to convert more moisture present in the air into water, hence more water comes out through the drain pipe.
