If you activate Two-Step Verification on WhatsApp, then whenever you register your number on a new device, it will ask you for SMS OTP as well as 6 digit PIN number. This means that even if someone accesses your OTP, they will not be able to access your account without the PIN number. In such a situation, if someone wants to register on WhatsApp with your number after SIM swap or device theft, then he will not get success. This extra layer of security can be very beneficial in cases like the recent spyware incident.
How to activate WhatsApp Two-Step Verification?
- To turn on two-step verification on WhatsApp, first open the app.
- Now go to your account by tapping on the settings icon.
- The option of two-step verification will appear in the account. Turn it on.
- For this you will be asked for 6 digit PIN number. Enter the PIN and confirm it.
- If you want, you can also enter your email address in it. If you enter your email it will be verified.
- Finally do it and save it.
How to turn off Two-Step Verification?
If you want to turn off two-step verification or change the PIN, the method is also easy. For this you will have to go to Settings and go to Account. Here, as soon as you tap on two-step-verification, you will see the option to turn it on and change your PIN. If you want, you can also update your email address in this option. The advantage of adding email is that it will be useful for recovery in case you forget the PIN number.
