Rare Sunset Eclipse On August 12 2026: Astronomical phenomena occurring in the sky always attract people, but the sight of solar eclipse is considered to be the most special among them. When the Moon covers the Sun for some time, daylight suddenly starts feeling like evening. There is a slight drop in the temperature, the sounds of the birds subside and the glowing outer layer around the sun makes for a wonderful sight. Now one such rare sight will be seen on August 12, 2026, which is being called ‘Sunset Eclipse’ i.e. solar eclipse occurring at the time of sunset.
Where will the views of the solar eclipse be seen?
According to NASA, this total solar eclipse will be visible in Greenland, Iceland, Northern Russia, the Atlantic Ocean, Spain and a small part of Portugal. The special thing is that for the first time after 1999, such a scene of complete solar eclipse will be seen in Europe. It will be even more special for Spain, because a total solar eclipse was last seen in the Iberian Peninsula in 1912.
What is sunset eclipse?
The name ‘Sunset Eclipse’ has been given because this eclipse will be visible at the time of sunset. According to NASA, people in the western parts of the eclipse path will see a partial eclipse even when the sun sets. According to BBC Sky at Night, this event in Spain will take place during the golden hour, when the sun is very close to the horizon. In such a situation, the confluence of eclipse and sunset can create a very attractive scene. Due to the relatively clear horizon in the coastal areas of the Mediterranean Sea, the view can be seen better from there.
For how long will you get the experience?
According to NASA, most eclipse viewers will experience totality for less than two minutes. Whereas in Greenland, Russia and some parts of the North Atlantic, this period can last for a maximum of two and a half minutes. Although this time is short, it is being considered no less than a special occasion for lovers of astronomical events.
