Warning for AI Chatbots: Nowadays AI chatbots are becoming increasingly famous but a recent report has increased the concern of parents. A study conducted by the eSafety Commissioner has revealed that many AI chatbot platforms fail to protect children from dangerous and obscene content.
Questions were raised on which apps?
Platforms like Character.AI, Chai, Nomi and Chub AI have been mentioned in the report. Serious flaws have been found in all of them regarding the safety of children. Investigation found that children can easily access adult features in these apps because there is no option like age verification.
Big lack in the name of security
According to the report, most of the apps only rely on the age given by the user at the time of signup. This means that any child can use these platforms by entering the wrong age. Not only this, in some apps no warning or help option is given even when signals related to self-harm are received. This situation can be even more dangerous for children.
Dangerous interactions and weak monitoring
These AI chatbots communicate through text, images and videos but they lack proper monitoring. This increases the risk of creating objectionable or illegal content. In some platforms, it was also found that users are not even told that asking for things related to wrong or crime is a legal offense.
Why is concern increasing?
Experts say that these AI chatbots give children a human-like experience. They behave like friends, advisors or companions due to which children quickly become attached to them. But the reality is that they are neither designed for children nor are there mental health experts. Despite this, they sometimes talk about sensitive topics which can affect the minds of children.
Why is there more danger in India?
The use of these apps is increasing rapidly in India. Due to cheap internet, easy access to smartphones and the young generation, these platforms are spreading very fast. The biggest problem is that these apps do not look dangerous. These often appear like simple or study-aiding tools, which parents do not even suspect.
What should parents do?
Instead of panicking, it is important to take wise steps. Talk openly to children about which apps they use and what kind of conversations they have there. Keep an eye on their online activity but with confidence. Proper guidance and awareness is the best way to avoid the dangers of this new technology.
