Nargis Dutt’s real name

Actually, Nargis Dutt’s death anniversary is on 3rd May. The real name of the actress was Rashid Fatima. He was born on 1 June 1929 in Kolkata. His mother Jadanbai was a famous classical singer, dancer, director and actress of that time. Jadanbai was also the first female music composer of Indian cinema. She wanted her daughter to enter the world of acting, but Nargis had a different dream.

Nargis did not want to act

She wanted to become a doctor. In the year 1935, when Nargis was just 6 years old, Jadanbai made her act as a child artist in the film ‘Talaash-e-Haq’. In this way her acting started, but Nargis was not interested in acting.

Reluctantly gave screen test and became ‘Mother India’

The story of Nargis Dutt becoming an actress is also quite interesting. One day Jadanbai sent Nargis Dutt to Mehboob Khan for a screen test. Nargis was in no mood at all. But she went to take the test reluctantly. Her intention was that Mehboob Khan would reject her and she would be able to fulfill her dream of becoming a doctor, but this did not happen. Mehboob Khan was so impressed by her acting that he chose Nargis as the heroine for his film ‘Taqdeer’.

Luck shined in 1949

After this, Mehboob Khan’s film ‘Humayun’ came in the year 1945 but the real success came in the year 1949. Raj Kapoor’s film ‘Barsaat’ and ‘Andaaz’ with Dilip Kumar made Nargis a star. The audience liked her pairing with Raj Kapoor in ‘Barsaat’ very much.

Then Nargis Dutt became ‘Mother India’

Nargis Dutt’s career was at its peak, but after 1950, some films were unsuccessful. Then in 1957, Mehboob Khan’s film ‘Mother India’ came. In this film, Nargis played the role of Radha and created history. ‘Mother India’ also got nomination for Oscar. This film gave Nargis international recognition. Nargis’s pairing with Raj Kapoor became very famous. After this, both of them worked together in films like ‘Awara’, ‘Shree 420’, ‘Chori Chori’, ‘Jaagte Raho’. The songs of these films still reside in the hearts of people.

Nargis Dutt died due to cancer

It is noteworthy that Nargis Dutt died in Breach Candy Hospital, Mumbai. He breathed his last on May 3, 1981. He had cancer. He was undergoing treatment in New York. His death occurred just three days before the release of son Sanjay Dutt’s first film ‘Rocky’.
