Riteish Deshmukh’s ambitious historical drama ‘Raja Shivaji’ released in theaters on May 1 and has made a great start at the box office. Co-written, directed and starrer by Riteish Deshmukh, this film has received rave reviews from critics and audiences. Now Ram Gopal Varma has also become a fan of ‘Raja Shivaji’. The filmmaker wrote that Ritesh is making waves in the theaters and the film is performing tremendously at the box office. He also praised Ritesh’s performance as Maratha warrior Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj, saying that the actor ‘literally looks like the reincarnation of Shivaji Maharaj’.

According to the early trend report of industry tracker Sacanilc, ‘Raja Shivaji’ collected a net collection of Rs 11.35 crore in 6,192 shows on its first day in India. The film earned 8.00 crores in the Marathi version while it added 3.35 crores in the Hindi version on the first day. Raja Shivaji recorded the highest occupancy in Sangli, Maharashtra, followed by Pune, Mumbai and Nashik.

Raja Shivaji stars Riteish Deshmukh in the lead role and features an impressive cast including Abhishek Bachchan, Genelia Deshmukh, Sanjay Dutt, Mahesh Manjrekar, Sachin Khedekar, Bhagyashree, Fardeen Khan, Jitendra Joshi and Amole Gupte. This historical drama is based on the early life of Maratha ruler Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj. The film is produced by Jyoti Deshpande and Genelia Deshmukh under the banner of Mumbai Film Company and presented by Jio Studios. This film has been released in theaters on 1 May.
