New Delhi. Another exciting high-scoring match of IPL 2026 was seen at the Wankhede Stadium in Mumbai, in which the home team Mumbai Indians was defeated by Sunrisers Hyderabad by 6 wickets. The trio of Abhishek Sharma, Travis Head and Heinrich Klaasen batted stormily, due to which Hyderabad made the fourth biggest successful chase in IPL history. Mumbai won the toss and batted and put a huge score of 243 runs on the board with Ryan Rickelton’s century. Hyderabad achieved the target by scoring 249 runs with 8 balls remaining. This is Hyderabad’s 5th consecutive win in the season and 6th win overall, due to which it has got 12 points and the team has reached the third position in the points table. At the same time, Mumbai Indians are at ninth position with sixth defeat in 8 matches.
Hyderabad chased the fourth highest score
Chasing Mumbai’s target of 244 runs, Sunrisers scored 129 runs in 8.4 overs for the first wicket between Head (76 runs, 30 balls, 8 sixes, 4 fours) and Abhishek Sharma (45 runs, 24 balls, 3 sixes, 4 fours) with the help of a half-century from Heinrich Klaasen (65 not out, 30 balls, 4 sixes, 7 fours). Won by scoring 249 runs for four wickets in 18.4 overs. Klaasen also made an 80-run partnership with Nitish Kumar Reddy (21) for the fourth wicket. In the end, Salil Arora gave the team victory by scoring unbeaten 30 runs with 2 fours and 3 sixes in 10 balls. The winning six came from Salil’s bat. This is the fourth largest successful run chase in IPL history. Hyderabad team has also achieved the target of 246 runs against Punjab Kings in 2025.
Richelton’s century turned upside down
Earlier, during the best innings of his career and the history of Mumbai, Rickelton scored unbeaten 123 runs in 55 balls with 8 sixes and 10 fours, due to which Mumbai managed to reach the huge score. However, the score proved to be dwarf in front of Hyderabad’s stormy batting. Rickelton also made a partnership of 93 runs for the first wicket with Will Jacques (46), 55 runs for the third wicket with Naman Dhir (22) and 56 runs for the fourth wicket with captain Hardik Pandya (31). Prafulla Hinge was the most successful bowler for Sunrisers, taking two wickets for 54 runs, while Ishan Malinga took 29 runs, Nitish Kumar Reddy took 31 runs and Saqib Hasan took one wicket each for 39 runs.
Abhishek and Head’s century partnership
Abhishek and Head gave a bright start to Sunrisers. Abhishek hit sixes on Trent Boult and Jasprit Bumrah. However, Head was lucky when Naman failed to catch Boult’s ball and the ball went for six runs. He hit two more sixes in the same over. After this, Naman gave second life to Head at backward point on the ball of Allah Ghazanfar. Taking advantage of this, Head hit sixes and fours on consecutive balls of Bumrah while Abhishek also hit a six on the star fast bowler. Sunrisers scored 92 runs in the power play without losing any wicket. Naman took a head catch for the third time on the ball of Ashwani Kumar in the seventh over and with a six the left-handed batsman completed his half-century in 20 balls. The team’s century of runs was also completed in this over.
Klaasen scored his fourth half century
However, after this, Abhishek, while trying to play a big shot on the ball of Ghazanfar (2 wickets for 51 runs), got caught by Boult at backward point. Ishan Kishan (0) played Ghazanfar’s next ball on the wickets. After this, Head also played Pandya’s ball into the hands of Jacques at extra cover, due to which Sunrisers’ score increased from 129 runs without wicket to 133 runs for three wickets. Klaasen showed his attitude with fours and sixes on consecutive balls of Ghazanfar and then hit four fours on Ashwini. Sunrisers needed 51 runs to win in the last five overs. Klaasen completed his fourth half-century of the current season in just 22 balls with a six on Ghazanfar and then hit another six on this spinner. Nitish also hit a four on Ghazanfar, but then after waving the ball in the air, Bolt was caught by Suryakumar. Sunrisers needed 11 runs in the last two overs. Salil, who hit a six on Bumrah, gave victory to Sunrisers with fours and two sixes on Pandya.
Mumbai also got a tremendous start
Hardik Pandya won the toss and decided to bat. Rickelton scored a century in 44 balls
Captain Cummins then handed the ball to Nitish and on his very first ball, Jacques was caught by wicketkeeper Ishan Kishan. Jacques hit five fours and three sixes in his 22-ball innings. Rickelton completed the team’s century in the eighth over with a four off Nitish and then scored a half-century in 23 balls with a six on the next ball. Suryakumar Yadav (05) also got caught by Abhishek at fine leg on Malinga’s ball in the next over. Despite losing wickets in consecutive overs, Rickelton continued its aggressive approach. He took the team’s score beyond 150 runs in the 12th over with two consecutive sixes on Dubey.
However, Naman Hinge’s ball was caught by Dubey after waving it in the air. Rickelton completed his first IPL century in 44 balls with one run after hitting fours and sixes on consecutive balls of Nitish, which is the fastest century for the team. Pandya also completed the team’s double century in the 16th over with two fours and a six on consecutive balls of Hinge, but after this he was caught by Klaasen at long off on the ball of Shakib. Facing 15 balls, he hit two sixes and the same number of fours.
