Gujarat coach came forward after batsmen were trolled, said – I don’t think there is a need for change

Ahmedabad. Gujarat Titans’ top order has faced criticism for not playing as aggressively as some other IPL teams, but assistant coach Parthiv Patel has denied any change in the team’s thinking. Ahead of the next match against Royal Challengers Bangalore at their home ground, Parthiv was reminded that despite an opening partnership of 128 runs in less than 13 overs at the Chinnaswamy Stadium, the Titans team could only score 205 runs and then lost the match with more than an over to spare. Opener Sai Sudarshan came into question for scoring a century in 57 balls.

Nowadays it is considered slow, especially when we look at the strike rates of openers like Vaibhav Suryavanshi, Priyansh Arya and Abhishek Sharma. Before the match, former Indian wicketkeeper Parthiv said, ‘I don’t think we need to make any special strategic changes. I think we are quite comfortable with the way we are playing and the way we are going into the match. Obviously there is a lot of talk about playing cricket in a different style, but I think we are playing the way we want to play.

He was also questioned on the lack of power hitting in the middle order, but Parthiv defended him. He said, ‘You can see that our top order plays most of the balls, till about the 15th or 16th over and as far as preparation is concerned, I can assure you that we make sure that they are well prepared. We have such facilities where we can do open net sessions. Like we did a session yesterday with our lower middle order or middle order.

Parthiv said, ‘So we try to give them as much opportunity as possible. As I said, we are a team that trusts each of its batsmen, no matter who is playing. And we have full confidence in them. We are making sure that they are prepared for important matches and if such a situation arises, they can perform well.
