In ‘Prithvi Sukta’ of Atharvaveda, earth has been seen as the life-giving mother. This mantra of Atharveda shows the deep connection between man and earth. It is said in it that the Earth is our mother and we are her sons, that is, protecting it is our supreme duty.
“Samudravasane Devi Parvatastanamandale.
Vishnupatni namastubhyam padasparsham kshasva mein.”
This is a morning prayer dedicated to Mother Earth, in which the Earth is considered to be a goddess. Earth has been described as the ‘sustaining’ and ‘sustaining life’ power.
