According to Hindu calendar, Shukla Paksha Pratipada Tithi of Chaitra month will start at 6:52 AM on March 19 and the Tithi will end at 4:52 AM on March 20, hence
Hindu New Year will be celebrated with Gudi Padwa on this day. The new Hindu year starts from Chaitra Navratri Pratipada date. This time Navratri will last for nine days and Ram Navami will be celebrated on 26 March.
Importance of 9 days of worship of Mother Goddess
Different forms of Maa Durga are worshiped during the nine days of Chaitra Navratri. Maa Shailputri is worshiped on the first day, Maa Brahmacharini on the second day, Maa Chandraghanta on the third day, Maa Kushmanda on the fourth day, Maa Skandamata on the fifth day, Maa Katyayani on the sixth day, Maa Kalaratri on the seventh day, Maa Mahagauri on the eighth day and Maa Siddhidatri on the ninth day.
Each form has its own special significance and devotees worship them and seek different types of blessings. Kanya Puja has special significance on the Ashtami and Navami days of Navratri. On this day, small girls are worshiped considering them as goddesses and they are given food and gifts. It is believed that by doing this, Mother Durga is pleased and fulfills the wishes of the devotees.
Ghatasthapana time
Basant Navratri starts on Uday Vyapini Pratipada in Chaitra Shukla. But if Chaitra Shukla Pratipada is not Uday Vyapini on any day (i.e. Pratipada date is decayed) then there are instructions in the scriptures to start Navratri on the first day (on Amavasya day itself).
“Tatrivayiki Pratipad Grahya. Dindvye Udayavyapti Avyapti Va Purva.” (Dharmasindhu).
This year, there is a decay of Chaitra Shukla Pratipada, that is, Pratipada starts after sunrise on Thursday, March 19, 2026 and ends on the same Thursday itself (before sunrise on Friday), due to which it has not become Uday Vyapini on both the days (19 and 20 March).
Basant Navratri starts in the morning in Chaitra Shukla in Udayvyapini Pratipada with Dwisvabhavalagra. This year Chaitra Shukla Pratipada is on 19 March 2026 (Thursday) from 06:54 AM to 04:52 AM. According to the scriptures, the beginning and establishment of Basantan Navratri will take place on this day.
- dual nature meenalagna morning 06:54 to 07:50 am
- Gemini Ascendant 1 am1:24 to 1:38 pm
- good choghadiya morning 06:54 am to 08:05 am,
- Chaughadiya morning of char-labh-amrit Time: 84 to 03:32 pm
- Abhijit Muhurta It will be from 12:11 to 12:59 in the afternoon.
Vikram Samvat 2083
In Hindu tradition, Nav Samvatsara is considered a symbol of new beginning, new energy and new resolutions. Like every year, this time too the new year will bring with it new possibilities and some challenges. According to astrology, the name of Vikram Samvat 2083 is 'Raudra' Samvatsar, whose effect will be seen throughout the year.
Chaitra Navratri will be of 9 days
This year Chaitra Navratri will start in some special astrological coincidence. Due to Pratipada Tithi falling on Amavasya, there is a possibility of breaking of the first Tithi, but despite this Navratri will remain for full nine days.
Pratipada Tithi will start after sunrise on 19th and will end before sunrise the next day on 20th March. According to the scriptures, it is considered best to perform Navratri Ghatasthapana on the day Pratipada Tithi falls.
Maa Durga will come riding on a palanquin
Every time during Navratri, the Goddess comes on a different vehicle, and according to that vehicle, the situation for the next six months is predicted. This time Maa Durga will come riding on a palanquin. In Devi Bhagwat, the result of Mother's arrival in the palanquin has been described as “Dholayaan Maranam Dhuvam”, which indicates loss of life and bloodshed. That is, the arrival of mother on palanquin (dolli) is not a sign of auspiciousness. Mother's arrival on a doli is considered a sign of socio-political upheaval and epidemic.
