Arunachal Pradesh New Tourism Project Details: Preparations to give a new identity to tourism in Arunachal Pradesh now seem to be on the ground. The state government has planned to convert the Lower Pondage area on the banks of Subansiri river into a tourist center where a unique confluence of nature, adventure and local culture can be seen. This initiative will not be limited to just sightseeing, rather the focus is on giving a complete experience to the tourists.
opportunity for tourism
The biggest strength of this scheme is the hydropower project around which this entire model is being prepared. This project with 2000 MW capacity is counted among the largest projects in the country and is expected to be fully operational by December 2026. Its four units are already working. The reservoir created from this is now being seen as a new opportunity in terms of tourism, especially because this area is very rich in terms of biodiversity. Chief Minister Pema Khandu has sought cooperation from the Central Government regarding this scheme. For this, it has been said to take technical help from ministries like tourism, energy, water power, shipping and north-eastern development, so that the project can be taken forward in a holistic manner.

Why is it special?
Actually, what makes this project special is its multidimensional format. Here many possibilities like experience of staying amidst nature, adventure activities, water sports, tours related to culture and heritage, employment through fisheries and luxury travel on the river will be developed together. The aim is that every tourist coming here should feel something different.
Attention has been given to local and tribal communities
Local and tribal communities have been kept at the center of this entire plan. They will not only be made a part of this development but will also be made its guardians. This is the reason why it is being seen not only as a tourism project but also as an initiative to increase livelihood. The government hopes that this will provide employment to about two and a half thousand people and in the coming time, about one and a half lakh tourists can reach here every year. This is also likely to provide a strong base to the state’s economy.

Currently, the first step in this direction is to prepare a detailed project report. For this, expert agencies will be attached, which will work on aspects like cost, implementation and local participation. It is noteworthy that in March this year, the Chief Minister along with the officials had undertaken a river journey of about 45 kilometers long. He had described this journey from Dolungmukh to Kamle-Subansiri Sangam as an important initiative towards understanding the possibilities and linking tourism with hydropower development. This scheme is being seen as an attempt to give a new identity to Arunachal Pradesh on the tourism map.
