AI Will Detect Heart Disease: Heart-related diseases still remain the biggest cause of death in the world. The biggest problem is that this disease progresses slowly and does not show any special symptoms in the initial period. By the time it is detected the situation may become serious. This is why doctors are always looking for ways by which risks can be identified in advance.
AI opened a new path
Researchers from America’s famous organization Mayo Clinic have developed a new technology in which the risk of heart disease can be estimated using Artificial Intelligence (AI). This study was presented at the American College of Cardiology Scientific Session 2026 and published in the American Journal of Preventive Cardiology.
New information received from old test itself
In this research, about 12,000 people were tracked for about 16 years. It used a common scan, coronary artery calcium scan, which is already done to check for calcium deposits in the arteries of the heart. With the help of AI, additional information was extracted from this scan which was previously ignored. This information was about the fat present around the heart which is called pericardial fat.
Fat around the heart becomes a big sign
The study found that people who had more fat around their heart had a higher risk of developing heart disease in the future. The special thing is that this risk was also seen independent of chronic causes like age, blood pressure, cholesterol and diabetes. This means that even some people who appear to be at low risk in a normal test may still have a hidden risk which AI can now identify.
Decision will be easy for doctors
This new technology can help doctors decide which patients need immediate attention and which do not. It is especially useful for those people in whom the risk is slightly higher. By getting better and accurate information, treatment and prevention decisions can be more effective.
Big benefit without extra expense
A special thing about this technique is that there is no need to conduct any new separate test for it. The same data that is already being scanned can be understood in a better way through AI. This makes this method easy, economical and applicable on a large scale.
The direction of treatment may change in future
Although more research is still needed on this technology, the initial results are quite promising. In the future, such AI based tools can help in detecting heart disease in advance so that treatment can be started in time and many lives can be saved.
