Ajinkya Rahane fined for slow over rate

New Delhi. The performance of Kolkata Knight Riders team in the Indian Premier League 2026 has been very disappointing. BCCI has taken action against team captain Ajinkya Rahane after the fourth defeat. In the match against Chennai Super Kings, Kolkata team could not complete its quota of overs in the stipulated time. For this reason, a fine of Rs 12 lakh has been imposed on Rahane. He was found guilty of slow over rate during the match played at MA Chidambaram Stadium.

Three-time IPL champion Kolkata Knight Riders were accused of violating Article 2.22 of the code of conduct. This was the team’s first offense of the season under the leadership of captain Rahane, hence a financial penalty was imposed on the captain. Kolkata Knight Riders has become the fourth team to be penalized for slow over rate this season. Punjab Kings captain Shreyas Iyer has already been fined twice for the same offence, while Gujarat Titans’ Shubhman Gill and Mumbai Indians’ Hardik Pandya have been fined once each.

Earlier, for committing the offense for the third time, Iyer had to face a ban of one match, but this rule has been removed in the revised IPL Code of Conduct. Apart from these four captains, Sunrisers Hyderabad’s Abhishek Sharma was fined 25 per cent of his match fee and one demerit point for his behavior against Kolkata Knight Riders. IPL did not mention this incident in detail, but it is believed that Abhishek had expressed dissatisfaction after the controversial catch of Varun Chakraborty. Due to which he was declared out.

Kolkata Knight Riders team has gone to the bottom of the points table after the defeat against Chennai. On Tuesday, they had to face defeat by 32 runs on the difficult pitch of Chennai. This defeat exposed head coach Abhishek Nair’s planning and Rahane’s old thinking. On a double-paced pitch, CSK scored 72 runs in the powerplay to post a total of 192/5, which was about 20 runs less than the average, but it proved enough to restrict KKR to 160/7 in 20 overs.
