Every season of the Indian Premier League gives cricket some new rising stars. It was IPL that gave Abhishek Sharma, Jasprit Bumrah and even Hardik Pandya a new identity in world cricket. Now 15 year old Vaibhav Suryavanshi is also on the same path. The discussion of bringing Vaibhav into Team India has also started gaining momentum, but the question is whether Vaibhav can make his debut in international cricket now or not? What is ICC’s rule regarding whether he is eligible to enter international cricket on the basis of age or not?
Vaibhav Suryavanshi, pass or fail?
Before the year 2020, there was no rule regarding the minimum limit for debut in international cricket. But in November 2020, ICC brought a new rule that a player can debut in international cricket only if he is at least 15 years of age. Vaibhav turned 15 on March 27 this year. Therefore, he has now become eligible to enter international cricket.
When can you debut?
Vaibhav Suryavanshi is among the biggest contenders to win the Orange Cap in IPL 2026. Till now he has scored 357 runs in 8 matches. After this performance, speculations have gained momentum that BCCI may give Vaibhav a chance to debut in Team India on the upcoming Ireland tour. This year, two T20 matches are to be played between India and Ireland on June 26 and June 28.
If Vaibhav Suryavanshi gets a chance to play an international match for Team India in the T20 series against Ireland, then he will become the youngest Indian player in history to debut in international cricket. Currently this Indian record is in the name of Sachin Tendulkar, who played his first international match at the age of 16 years 205 days.
