Vaibhav Suryavanshi failed, Babar Azam created history by scoring a century, the first player in the world to do so

New Delhi. On Tuesday, everyone’s eyes were on Rajasthan Royals’ explosive opener Vaibhav Suryavanshi in the Indian Premier League 2026. He batted brilliantly but missed making fifty. On one hand, while Vaibhav failed, on the other hand, Pakistan’s star batsman Babar Azam scored a explosive century in the Pakistan Super League. With this, he became the first player in the world to score nine centuries as a captain in T20 cricket. He broke Faf du Plessis’ record of eight centuries by scoring 103 runs in 59 balls for Peshawar Zalmi against Islamabad United in the PSL Qualifier.

Du Plessis had made this record in 216 matches, whereas Babar broke it in only 154 matches. This right-handed batsman has shown excellent form this year. He has scored 588 runs in ten matches at an average of 84 and strike rate of 146.26. Although this performance has not been able to completely silence his critics, but he has definitely given such indications that the national selectors may consider including him again in the Pakistan team. In this century against Islamabad also, as an opener, Babar hit 12 fours and four sixes and ended the innings with a strike rate of 174.57.

This was Babar’s fourth century in PSL. Earlier, he had scored one century each in 2022 and 2023. With this, he equaled Usman Khan’s record in terms of scoring most centuries in the history of the league. Usman achieved this feat in 35 matches, whereas Babar took 110 matches to achieve this. An even more special record for Babar is that this was his eighth T20 century in Pakistan. No player in the world has scored so many T20 centuries in a single country. Babar has equaled the world records of Abhishek Sharma (eight centuries in 150 matches in India) and Virat Kohli (eight centuries in 292 matches in India).
