Rohit Sharma played a brilliant inning of 78 runs against Kolkata Knight Riders in the first match of the Indian Premier League 2026. During this, a big record of Virat Kohli was broken. No batsman in the world has been able to score more runs than Rohit's 1161 runs against the same team in T20 cricket. Kohli has scored a total of 1160 runs in 36 matches against Chennai Super Kings. Rohit Sharma has now pushed him to second place in this list.
Rohit Sharma broke Virat Kohli's world record
New Delhi. On Sunday (29 March), in the first match of IPL 2026, Rohit Sharma played a brilliant inning of 78 runs in 38 balls for Mumbai Indians against Kolkata Knight Riders. On the basis of this inning, he broke a record of Virat Kohli. Hitting six fours and as many sixes, Rohit took Virat Kohli's record of scoring the most runs against a single team in T20. He has scored a total of 1161 runs in 36 IPL matches for Deccan Chargers and Mumbai Indians against KKR.
No batsman in the world has been able to score more runs than Rohit's 1161 runs against the same team in T20 cricket. Kohli has scored a total of 1160 runs in 36 matches against Chennai Super Kings. Rohit Sharma has now pushed him to second place in this list. He has scored 1159 runs in 36 matches against Punjab Kings and 1154 runs in 32 matches against Delhi Capitals.
Most runs against a single team in T20
Rohit has played all 36 matches against KKR in IPL only. He has scored 116 runs in six IPL matches against KKR for Deccan Chargers and 1045 runs in 30 IPL matches for Mumbai Indians. Kohli has scored 1160 runs in 36 T20 matches against CSK, he has scored 1146 runs in 35 matches against them in the IPL. He also played a Champions League T20 match for RCB against CSK, in which he scored 14 runs.
Apart from scoring 1161 runs in the IPL against Kolkata Knight Riders, Rohit also has 1057 runs against Delhi Capitals in the world's richest franchise cricket league. Mumbai Indians will play their second IPL 2026 match against Delhi Capitals in Delhi on Saturday (April 4), and in that match, Rohit will have a chance to score the most runs in T20 against Delhi Capitals. At present, the record of scoring most runs in T20 matches against Delhi Capitals is in the name of Virat Kohli. Kohli has scored 1154 runs in 32 matches against Delhi team.
