Türkiye will ban these platforms for children by the end of this year and UAE from next year.
These countries have also announced
Using social media platforms for children will be banned in the UK and Greece from 2027 and in Sweden from 2028. Canada and Norway can bring such a law this year. Countries like Germany, Denmark, Ireland, Austria and Slovenia have also indicated that they are going to block social media for children. Apart from these, such laws are also being considered in France, Portugal, Spain and Italy.
Why is social media being banned for children?
Social media is being banned considering its impact on the mental and physical health of children. Those supporting the ban say that social media was not designed for children. Due to its continuous use, problems like depression, obesity and anxiety are increasing in children. On the other hand, its critics say that banning is not effective. Despite the ban, children will still access social media in other ways.
