Gen Z on AI: Artificial Intelligence (AI) has become a part of our lives today. From job, education, healthcare to everyday tasks, its use is increasing rapidly. But an interesting and slightly worrying trend has emerged in which Gen Z, the young generation that uses AI the most, also seems to be the most uncomfortable with it.
Recent reports show that there is a big difference in the thinking of common people and experts regarding AI. While experts are positive about the future of AI, common people are expressing concerns about its impact.
Why is Gen Z getting frustrated about AI?
According to a report by Stanford University, enthusiasm about AI is decreasing among the youth. Even though they use AI tools daily or several times a week, their confidence in this technology is decreasing. Survey data shows that only 10% people are excited about AI while the rest are more worried.
In contrast, 56% of AI experts believe that AI will bring positive changes to society in the coming 20 years. The same difference is visible in the field of healthcare also. While 84% of experts are confident that AI will improve treatment, only 44% of common people agree with this.
Concern about jobs is increasing
The biggest concern regarding AI is employment. About 64% people believe that there may be a reduction in jobs in the future due to AI. However, experts have a different opinion. About 73% of experts say that AI will make work easier and will also increase people’s ability to work. But only 23% of the common people believe in this. This difference clearly shows that both fear and confusion exist in the minds of people regarding technology.
Differences also regarding impact on the economy
Opinion is also divided regarding the economic impact of AI. About 69% of experts believe that AI will strengthen the economy while only 21% of common people agree with it. It is clear from this that the general public is seeing less benefits of AI and more risks. Amidst the increasing influence of AI, people’s trust in government control also seems to be decreasing.
Only 31% people feel that their government will be able to handle AI properly. The situation is different in some countries. For example, 81% of people in Singapore trust their government to manage AI responsibly.
