New Delhi: Afghanistan’s charismatic leg spinner Rashid Khan has created a stir all over the world with his spin bowling. This is the reason why Rashida Khan was informally proposed to be given citizenship by not one but two countries, so that she could leave Afghanistan and play for them. Surprisingly, Rashid was also offered citizenship from India, but this star cricketer rejected these offers. Rashid instead chose to remain loyal to his country and this has been revealed in a new book. Rashida Khan has been playing IPL in India for a long time and she gets a lot of love here. Indian cricket fans are impressed by Rashid’s spin bowling.
In a book ‘Rashid Khan: From Streets to Stardom’, this all-rounder told author Mohammad Hand Jaffer that both India and Australia had made him such offers which he rejected. This book will be released on Monday. Khan is quoted in the book as saying, “I had received such offers (of citizenship and playing) from both Australia and India. But I told him, “If I don’t play for my country, I won’t play for any other country.”
Rashid got the offer of Indian citizenship in 2023
However, he has not explained anything in detail about Australia’s offer. But this 27-year-old cricketer has explained in detail about the offer he received from India during the 2023 Indian Premier League season. Rashid is currently playing for Gujarat Titans in IPL. He told that an official of his team had informed him that ‘a top official of the Indian Cricket Board’ wanted to meet him.
Describing this incident in the book, Rashid said, “I went to him and said hello.” We started talking and he said, “The condition of your country (Afghanistan) is very bad. Come to India and stay. We will give you Indian documents, stay here, play cricket here. I was surprised to hear him and did not know what to say. But I smiled and said thank you very much. I am playing for my country Afghanistan.” His loyalty towards his country Afghanistan has been in the headlines many times before.
