Now Delhi Police is investigating whether the protesters involved in this demonstration are using Bluetooth-powered messaging apps. According to reports, due to internet shutdown and ban on mobile networks, the protesters are using offline messaging apps. According to reports, the police suspect that the protesters are using Bluetooth-based communication apps. However, this has not been confirmed yet by the police. Offline apps work without connectivity
Apps like WhatsApp, Signal and Telegram require mobile internet or Wi-Fi to function. Without connectivity, these apps cannot do any work. Offline messaging apps, on the other hand, are designed to work in conditions of no connectivity. These apps use Bluetooth Low Energy (BLE). This is a wireless technology that comes in almost every modern smartphone. There are many such apps, which allow sending messages even without connectivity using this technology. Bitchat is a big name among such apps, which was launched last year by Twitter founder Jack Dorsey. On this you can do chatting through Bluetooth even without creating an account. Many such apps will be available on Google Play Store.
How does chatting happen through Bluetooth?
Apps like Bitchat help in communicating with the devices around you with the help of Bluetooth. When a user sends a message on these apps, it does not go to the mobile tower, Wi-Fi and central server. Instead, the phone will send an encrypted message to the other phone via Bluetooth. Then the next phone will forward this message to the phones around it. In this way a mesh network is formed. That means every smartphone works as a relay. When a large number of people join together at one place, the network becomes larger and the range of communication also increases. In this way, even without network, a message sent from one phone easily reaches another phone located at some distance.
Why is Delhi Police investigating these apps?
According to media reports, Delhi Police wants to seek information about users from the service providers of offline messaging apps for investigation. However, the name of any app has not been revealed in this matter yet. Police are identifying the protesters using IP device records and facial recognition technology etc.
