New Delhi: Before the start of the Indian Premier League 2026, the owners of Royal Challengers Bangalore and Rajasthan Royals changed. Defending champion RCB has been bought jointly by Aditya Birla Group, American sports investor David Blitzer and American private equity firm Blackstone. This trade deal for RCB was completed for Rs 16660 crore, making this team the most expensive team of IPL. Whereas Rajasthan Royals team has been sold for Rs 15000 crore.

When IPL started in 2008, businessman Vijay Mallya had bought RCB. In such a situation, when this team was sold after 18 years, he wrote an emotional message on his social media. Mallya wrote on his X handle, “I would like to heartily congratulate the new owners of RCB. I wish them the best future and success with the most valuable IPL franchise.”

Vijay Mallya had bought RCB for 450 crores

Congratulating the new owner of RCB, Vijay Mallya wrote, “When I bought the franchise for Rs 450 crore in 2008, most people laughed at me and criticized my investment by calling it showy. The reason behind my obsession was to build the Royal Challenger brand, that is why I named the franchise RCB.”

He further wrote, “It is a great pleasure to see that my investment of Rs 450 crore has grown to Rs 16500 crore. RCB will always remain in my heart, which also includes the choice of young Virat Kohli who is one of the best players in the world today.
