How can AI increase the burden on your pocket?
According to TimesNow, Professor Hannah Wiseman at Penn State’s Institute of Energy and Environment says that due to AI, the demand to expand the power grid is also increasing. He said that every online activity, from online shopping to video gaming and use of AI, requires a data center. Now such data centers have been built which are consuming electricity equal to a medium sized city. Therefore, when a data center is set up in an area, companies have to arrange for an extra grid to meet the demand. To meet its cost, electricity companies can increase the electricity prices for other users also.
How much electricity is required for the data center?
After the AI boom, the number of data centers is increasing rapidly. They require electricity to operate. The International Energy Agency (IEA) estimates that by 2030, data centers around the world will need about 945 terawatt-hours (TWh) of electricity every year. This is more than the total electricity consumption of Japan. That means after 4 years the data center will need more electricity than a country.
Cow dung can be used as support
Cow dung can be used to meet the increased energy needs of the data center. According to the US Department of Energy, methane released from cow dung can be captured and made into fuel. Instead of letting this gas get into the environment, it can be used to generate electricity which can power homes, factories and even data centers.
