New Delhi. Batsmen usually dominate in T20 cricket. The batsmen have made many such records with their explosive batting, which seem not only difficult but impossible to break. However, in T20 cricket, which is called a batsmen’s format, many times bowlers have also performed miracles. Some made the record of economical spell and some made records by taking a flurry of wickets, but do you know that in this format the seemingly impossible feat of taking 5 wickets in an over has also been done, that too in the last of the innings i.e. in the 20th over. This amazing person is not a foreigner, but an Indian cricketer. Let us tell you about this star…

Actually, this record has been made by Abhimanyu Mithun, who has played Test and ODI for India. Abhimanyu Mithun has done this unique feat in domestic cricket in 2019, which even the biggest bowlers could not do. While playing for Karnataka, he created history in the semi-finals of Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy against Haryana. In the last over of the innings (20th over), Mithun took a total of 5 wickets, which included a hat-trick. He took 4 consecutive wickets on the first four balls of the over and destroyed Haryana’s innings by taking the 5th wicket on the last ball. Mithun showed the way to the pavilion to batsmen like Himanshu Rana, Rahul Tewatia, Sumit Kumar and Amit Mishra on the first four balls. Then he achieved a historic feat by taking the wicket of Jayant Yadav on the last ball.

Unique record of hat-trick in all three formats
Abhimanyu Mithun is the first Indian cricketer who has achieved the feat of taking a hat-trick in all three formats of domestic cricket. He took a hat-trick against Uttar Pradesh in Ranji Trophy. Took a hat-trick on his birthday against Tamil Nadu in the Vijay Hazare Trophy. Took a hat-trick against Haryana in Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy. There have been many greats in India, who have played all three formats in domestic cricket, but could not make the unique record of taking a hat-trick in all three formats. This record of Abhimanyu Mithun is one of the most memorable moments of Indian domestic cricket.

Played only 9 matches for India
Abhimanyu Mithun’s international career may have been short, but he left his mark in a very short time. Mithun, considered a legend of domestic cricket, was known for his fast bowling and accurate line-length. On 18 July 2010, he took 4 wickets in the first innings of his very first Test against Sri Lanka in Galle. At the same time, on 27 February 2010, he made his ODI debut against South Africa in Ahmedabad. Mithun played a total of 4 Test and 5 ODI matches for India, in which he took a total of 12 wickets. Mithun was not only a bowler but also batted usefully in the lower order. His average in Test cricket was 24.00. He played his last Test against West Indies in June 2011 and his last ODI against West Indies in December 2011.

Abhimanyu Mithun had announced his retirement from all formats of Indian cricket on 7 October 2021. The reason behind his retirement was his desire to play in other leagues and spend time with his family. Even though he did not get many opportunities in Team India, he immortalized his name in history by taking more than 300 first class wickets for Karnataka and taking a hat-trick in all three formats of domestic cricket.
