KKR’s savior is coming! Entry of the player who single-handedly turned the tables confirmed, will he get his first win now?

Matheesha Pathirana KKR IPL 2026: Kolkata Knight Riders is constantly surrounded by criticism. Especially Ajinkya Rahane’s captaincy is under question. KKR has not won any match in IPL 2026 so far, due to which its playoff hopes seem to be dashed. Amidst these criticisms, a relief news has emerged for the Kolkata team because Sri Lankan fast bowler Mathisha Pathirana is going to join the KKR team soon.

According to Sri Lankan sports media organization ‘Sports Pavilion’, Mathisha Pathirana will join Kolkata Knight Riders team on the evening of 18th April or morning of 19th April. Let us remind you that Pathirana had suffered a calf injury during the T20 World Cup 2026, after which he has not played any competitive cricket.

Sri Lanka Cricket Board had made it clear that if the players coming in the Central Contract List want to play in any franchise league of the world, then they will have to pass the fitness test, only then they will be able to get No Objection Certificate (NOC). The good news for KKR is that Pathirana has got NOC. The Sri Lanka Cricket Board has given the green signal to Pathirana and about two weeks ago, Pathirana started practicing bowling in the nets.

When will Pathirana be able to play?

Kolkata Knight Riders are at the bottom of the points table of IPL 2026. KKR has not been able to register a single win in 6 matches. If everything goes well, Pathirana can be seen playing in the match against Rajasthan Royals on 19 April. However, it has not been confirmed as to when Pathirana will be able to get back on the field.

Pathirana was bought by Kolkata Knight Riders in the mini auction with a bid of Rs 18 crore. He has taken 47 wickets in his 32-match IPL career so far.
