Augmental MouthPad: You will no longer have to control the mouse with your hands to operate the computer. A company has launched a tongue-operated mouse in the market. This is a tongue-controlled mouthpad, which was first introduced in 2024 and has now become available for sale. With its help, the computer can be operated without the help of hands. About 100 people who are unable to move are already using it. Let us know how this mouse which works with the help of tongue works.
How does this mouthpad work?
This mouthpad has been prepared by a company named Augmental. It is customized according to each user and fits over the upper teeth like a retainer. It has a pressure-sensitive track pad, which is placed on the pallet. It can move, click and swipe the cursor with the help of head movement. A companion app also comes to customize its functions. The company said that more than 100 users are using it and some of them use it 16 hours a day. Augmental had also released its second generation variant, in which tongue-activated keyboard shortcuts are supported. The battery of the new version has also been enlarged and now it can last 7 hours more than before. Another special thing about it is that it can be paired with multiple gadgets simultaneously.
Much cheaper than brain chip, but effective
Augmental claims that the mouthpad scored 10.47 bits per second in a cursor accuracy test, which shows the precision of this device. This figure is equal to the brain computer interface i.e. the chip implanted in the brain. However, there is a night and day difference in the prices of both. The chip requires surgery to be inserted, while the mouthpad can be inserted after a dental scan for about $1500.
The pendant will work like a keyboard
If the mouthpad is considered like a mouse, then the company has launched a pendant named Vox, which can be considered a keyboard. It can read speech with the help of body vibrations by staying near the skin. It has been designed on the lines of stethoscope.
