- Devices like smart glasses, lamps will compete with Apple.
OpenAI Devices: Now the picture is becoming clear as to which hardware devices OpenAI, the company making ChatGPT chatbot, is working on. Recently, the company’s roadmap has been revealed in many reports. The company’s first device will be a portable speaker, in which AI will be integrated. This speaker without a screen will work like an assistant. After this the company will launch a phone with AI agent. Apart from this, the company is also making smart glasses, smart lamps and probably earbuds. The company wants to compete with Apple through these products.
How will OpenAI’s smart speaker be?

According to reports, the first generation variant of OpenAI’s smart speaker will not have a screen. Being portable, you will be able to use it anywhere. It will work as a personal companion just like a phone. ChatGPT and GPT-Live will be integrated in it for conversation with the user. The camera and sensors installed in it will be able to see and understand the environment around you. Some mechanical elements can also be added to it. OpenAI CEO Sam Altman has said that this is going to be the coolest device ever to appear in front of the world. This product is also going to be special because many big names including former Apple Chief Designer Jony Ive are preparing it.
How useful will this speaker be?
This speaker will work as your digital assistant. It will complete tasks like playing media, controlling smart home accessories, replying to messages, answering questions. As you keep using it, it will collect information about you and then become proactive and start completing your tasks. It will be launched early next year and you will have to spend Rs 19,000-28,000 to buy it.
OpenAI’s smartphone
OpenAI is also working on an AI agent phone, which will be quite different from a normal phone. In a normal phone, a separate app has to be opened for every task. This phone will not have this problem. This phone will automatically understand what it has to do according to location and context and then complete that task without opening any app. A customized version of MediaTek Dimensity 9600 will be used in this phone. Luxshare will be included in this project as a manufacturing partner. Two AI processors will be used in it to complete vision and language tasks simultaneously. The production of this phone was earlier expected to start in 2028, but now in view of the IPO and increasing competition, its production will start in 2027. This phone may be launched in early 2028.
These products are in the pipeline
OpenAI is also working on smart glasses, smart lamps and earbuds, but not much information has been revealed about them yet, but the strategy shows that OpenAI has made full preparations to compete with Apple.
How will Apple compete?

These days, Apple is also preparing AirPods with cameras, smart glasses, AI pendants and smart home hubs, in which Siri will be integrated. If we look at the upcoming products of both the companies, it becomes clear that there is going to be a tough competition between them. Customers will see products from both companies in the same category, which is sure to impact Apple’s market share. Apart from this, if we look at the company level, OpenAI has given a big blow to Apple. OpenAI has joined about 400 former Apple employees. These also include big names like Evans Hankey and Tang Tan. Paul Meade, leader of Apple’s Vision Products Group, is also now working with OpenAI.
