On May 2, people were alerted with the help of cell broadcast technology. This system is used to send alert messages to many people simultaneously in an area. It was developed by the European Telecommunication Standards Institute in the 1990s and is being used today in more than 30 countries.
How does this technology work?
Mobile towers installed in an area keep communicating with the phones coming within their reach and also provide network. The technology due to which this communication takes place between tower and mobile is called cell broadcast. Using this technology the government can issue emergency alerts. This is one-way communication, which can send messages simultaneously to all mobiles connected to a tower. For this, neither internet is required nor is it necessary for the government to have the number of any mobile user.
Can this cause further changes in the phone?
The answer to this question is no. This technology supports read-only communication channel and through this the phone’s apps, files and settings cannot be accessed.
