Sunil Narine’s historic ‘Maiden’ Super Over
This historic feat happened on 17 July 2014 during the Caribbean Premier League (CPL). The match between Guyana Amazon Warriors and Trinidad and Tobago Red Steel ended in a draw, after which the victory had to be decided by a super over. Batting first, Guyana set a target of 12 runs for Red Steel to win in the Super Over. On behalf of Guyana, the captain handed the ball to ‘mystery spinner’ Sunil Narine.
Aggressive batsman Nicholas Puran was on strike, who batted brilliantly in the main innings of the match.

First ball: Narine trapped Puran in his spin, the batsman was beaten (0 runs). Second ball: Once again Puran tried to play a big shot, but there was no contact between the ball and the bat (0 runs). Third ball: Puran looked helpless in front of Narine’s precise line-length. (0 runs) Fourth ball: Fourth consecutive dot ball. Now the pressure had completely overwhelmed Puran. (0 Run) Fifth ball: Under pressure, Puran played a shot in the air and was caught out by Martin Guptill at long off. Sixth ball: New batsman Ross Taylor came to the crease. They needed 12 runs to win, but Narine beat them too and finished the over maiden. (0 runs)

Sunil Narine is the only bowler in T20 cricket history who has bowled a super over maiden. This record is still seen as a “miracle” in the cricket world, because in the Super Over, where the bowlers struggle to stop the runs, Narine did not even allow the opposition batsmen to open the account.
