Sharp increase in the number of wireless connections

The share of wireless connections in the number of telecom subscribers in the country is increasing rapidly. This shows that the demand for mobile connectivity as well as IoT and wireless broadband services is increasing in the country. The number of wireless users was 128.89 crore in April, which has increased to 129.44 crore in May. Of these, 114.58 crore are consumer mobile SIM card users, while 13.11 are machine-to-machine (M2M) SIMs. While normal SIMs are used for both data and calls, M2M SIMs are used for data transmission. They are used in smart meters, vending machines, fleet tracking and security systems. Apart from these, 1.17 crore subscribers are using fixed wireless services in the country.

Jio is the country’s largest telecom company

Jio remains the largest telecom company in the country with the largest subscriber base. The total number of subscribers of Jio is 52.96 crore. Airtel is at second place with 37.60 crore users, Vodafone Idea is at third place with 12.90 crore users and the country’s only government company BSNL is at fourth place with 2.70 crore users.

Airtel added the most new users in May

Even though Jio is the largest company in the country, Airtel has won in terms of adding new users in May. In May, Airtel added a total of 29.80 lakh users including mobile and fixed line services. Of these, 29.26 lakh are mobile subscribers. Talking about Jio, the company has added 22.55 lakh new users to its account. Of these, 21.54 lakh are mobile users, while 1.01 lakh are fixed line users. Together, both the companies have increased their subscriber base by 52.36 lakh users.
