- Content will be shared only with mutual followers.
Instagram Instants: Instagram is creating a stir in the world of social media with a new experiment. The company is testing a new image-sharing app called Instants in which photos and videos automatically disappear after some time. This move of Meta is being seen as a direct competition to platforms like Snapchat and BeReal.
Testing started in selected countries
Instagram has currently started testing the Instants app in certain countries, including Italy and Spain. This app is being offered as a separate (standalone) platform and its listing has also been seen on Google Play Store. However, it is not yet available for download for common users.
What is the specialty of Instants app?
While Instagram’s current platform is dominated by algorithms and edited content, Instants has been created with a completely different thinking. Its focus is on instant sharing of real-life, unedited photos. Photos or videos sent in this app can be viewed only once and they remain available for a maximum of 24 hours, after which they automatically disappear. Users can add light text in these but the facility of filters or advanced editing is not provided.
No camera roll, only live capture
One special thing about Instants is that there will be no option to upload photos from the phone’s gallery. Users will be able to share photos or videos by clicking them only from the camera present inside the app. This will make the content more authentic and real-time.
Who will you be able to share with?
In this app, users can share their photos only with those people who follow them and whom they also follow. This means that content can be shared only with mutual followers or special friends list. This list remains synced across both Instagram and Instants.
Available as both app and feature
The company has clarified that Instants is being tested as a separate app in some places and as a feature within Instagram in some areas. This move indicates that Meta wants to give users the opportunity to connect in a more casual and less pressured way.
Why is Meta bringing this change?
For some time now, Instagram has been working in this direction to ensure that users share more natural and non-pretentious content. Instants is a part of this thinking where people will get a chance to share a glimpse of the same moment with friends without editing it.
The Instants app reinforces the social media trend where the focus is not on perfect photos but on real, instantly shared moments. In the coming time, it will be interesting to see how popular this new feature becomes among the users.
