YouTube AI Feature: Taking a big step, video platform YouTube has now extended its likeness detection technology to the entertainment industry. Its purpose is to identify fake videos made by AI, especially deepfakes, and to protect the identities of celebrities.
What is this Likeness Detection technology?
This technology, with the help of AI, scans those videos in which a person’s face has been created in a fake manner. In simple language, if a celebrity’s appearance has been misused then this system can catch it. This system is somewhat similar to YouTube’s old Content ID system which identifies copyrighted content. The only difference is that now it keeps track of faces and identities.
Why is this feature important?
Nowadays, faces of famous people are being used in many fake advertisements and scams. Using their identity without permission has become a big problem. The purpose of this new technology is to curb such matters so that no one can take advantage of the celebrity’s image.
Who will get the benefit?
Earlier this feature was tested for limited creators but now it is being expanded on a larger scale. Now talent agencies, management companies and the artists associated with them will also be included in it. The special thing is that to use it, it is not necessary for a celebrity to have his own YouTube channel.

However, YouTube has clarified that not every video will be removed as content like parody and satire is allowed on the platform.

At present this technology works only on visual (face) but in the coming time the ability to recognize voice (audio) will also be added to it. YouTube is also trying to make such protection a part of the law. The company is supporting the NO FAKES Act in America, which aims to control the misuse of one’s voice and identity through AI.
