New Delhi. Chennai Super Kings created history in IPL. CSK registered its third win of the season by defeating Mumbai Indians by 103 runs in the 33rd match of IPL. This is CSK’s biggest win in IPL history while Mumbai’s biggest defeat in IPL history. This is Mumbai’s fifth defeat in seven matches. Sanj Samson’s unbeaten century played an important role in CSK’s victory, while in bowling, spinners Akil Hussain and Noor Ahmed trapped six Mumbai batsmen in their spin. Mumbai team, which came to chase the target of 208 runs set by CSK, collapsed for 104 runs in 19 overs. For Mumbai, Tilak Verma scored 37 runs while Suryakumara Yadav scored 36 runs.

The start of Mumbai Indians’ innings was very bad. Quinton de Kock (7), Danish Malewar (0), and Naman Dheer (0) returned to the pavilion cheaply. In the middle order, Suryakumar Yadav (36) and Tilak Verma (37) showed struggle and tried to handle the innings, but they too could not stand in front of the lethal bowling of Akil Hussain. Hussain performed brilliantly and took 4 wickets alone. Captain Hardik Pandya (12) and Sherfane Rutherford (0) also became victims of Noor Ahmed. Due to which the team came into trouble. Mumbai had lost 8 wickets for 100 runs. Overton gave Mumbai the eighth blow while Anshul Kamboj gave the ninth blow to Shardul Thakur by dismissing him. Shardul was out after scoring six runs.

CSK won the third match out of seven.

CSK scored 207 runs for 6 wickets with the help of second century of the season by Sanju Samson (101 not out). Samson played 54 balls for his fifth century in IPL in which 10 fours and six sixes were hit. Due to poor shot selection and lack of concentration, Samson’s teammates kept getting out at the other end, but the Indian wicketkeeper-batsman played with composure and played another memorable innings at the Wankhede Stadium. At one time the CSK team seemed to be moving towards a big score but the team faltered in the middle overs. Apart from Samson, no other batsman of the team could convert his good start into a big score.

Jasprit Bumrah (31/1) bowled tightly in the first over for Mumbai Indians, but Samson hit a four. After this, he flicked the ball of Hardik Pandya (no wicket for 38 runs) with his pads and hit a six. CSK had a great start. Captain Ruturaj Gaikwad (22) and Samson scored 19 runs each in the first two overs of Hardik during the powerplay. Despite the fall of two wickets, the visiting team was in a strong position after scoring 73 runs. It seemed that Gaikwad was returning to form. He started by hitting a powerful shot on the on-side off Hardik and then hit a six which resulted in a total of 19 runs in the second over.

Sanju Samson made five big records by scoring a century.

In the third over, Gaikwad tried to play a shot against AM Ghazanfar (two wickets for 25 runs), but Tilak Verma took a brilliant catch. This ‘homecoming’ was not at all pleasant for Mumbai players Sarfaraz Khan (14) and Shivam Dubey (05) present in the CSK team. Despite Sarfaraz hitting two fours on the on-side, Mitchell Santner bowled the next ball in the wicket line itself. Sarfaraz tried to play his ‘trademark’ sweep shot, but the ball hit his wickets straight away. In the ninth over, Ghazanfar’s ball hit the inner edge of the bat of India’s all-rounder Dubey, who came at number four, and went straight into the wickets.

Dewald Brewis hit a few shots to score 21 runs in 11 balls but was out to an excellent short ball from Ashwini Kumar (2 for 37). But Samson continued scoring runs by striking the right balance between caution and aggression. In the last over, he hit a brilliant six over cover off Krish Bhagat and completed his century by pulling the last ball. CSK players came to the field with black bands on their arms due to the death of Mukesh Chaudhary’s mother.
