PSL will leave IPL behind, trophy thief Pakistan Cricket Board Chief Naqvi challenges BCCI

New Delhi. Pakistan Cricket Board Chairman Mohsin Naqvi has issued an open challenge to the world’s richest T20 league, the Indian Premier League (IPL). He claimed that Pakistan Super League (PSL) is growing rapidly and can soon become the number one franchise competition in the world. This statement of Naqvi has come at a time when the 11th season of PSL is being played.

This time PSL matches are being held at only two venues. The reason for this is being said to be regional tension. At the same time, IPL is organized in many cities without any interruption. Speaking at the PCB Board of Governors meeting, Naqvi described the increasing interest of investors as the main basis of his talk. He said that PSL has now become the most attractive market for investment, due to which its growth can further accelerate in the coming years.

He also said that the strong participation in the processes related to the franchise of PSL 2026 shows the growing confidence in the cricket ecosystem of Pakistan. “PSL has now become the best market for investment. The time is not far when PSL will become the number one league in the world.”

This claim of Naqvi has come despite the huge difference between the two leagues. The value of media rights of IPL is about 6 billion US dollars. For PSL this figure is approximately $93 million. The annual income of IPL is more than 1 billion dollars, while PSL earns about 60 million dollars. This difference is clearly visible in the latest ranking chart released by the World Cricketers Association (WCA). PSL has got fifth place with 48 points, while IPL is at third place with 62.2 points. The Hundred (75.2) is on the first number and SA20 (68) is on the second.

Controversies have also been seen in the current season of PSL. Fakhar Zaman was found guilty of ball tampering. He was suspended for two matches. In another case, Shaheen Afridi and Sikandar Raza were punished for bringing guests to the team hotel without permission, which was considered a security violation.
