Pressure Cooker Blast Safety Tips: Nowadays, pressure cooker is used in almost every house. The biggest reason for this is that food is prepared very quickly. Dal, rice, vegetables or meat, everything can be prepared in the cooker in less time and less effort, but as much as it is useful, it can also be dangerous if used incorrectly. Many times it is seen in the news that incidents of pressure cooker explosions occur, due to which people suffer serious injuries and in some cases even loss of life. Often these accidents do not happen due to any major reason, but due to small carelessness. If proper precautions are taken, these accidents can be completely avoided. So today let us tell you due to which mistakes the pressure cooker explodes.
Due to which mistakes pressure cooker explodes?
1. Ignoring gasket and safety valve – Rubber gasket and safety valve are very important in pressure cooker. These two together control the pressure inside and expel excess steam, but many people do not change them or do not pay attention to them for a long time. If the gasket becomes old or loose, steam does not come out properly. Whereas if the safety valve gets jammed, the pressure inside increases. If the pressure increases, there is a risk of the cooker bursting. In such a situation, check the gasket and valve from time to time. If it gets damaged, replace it immediately with a new one. Do not use cheap or counterfeit parts.
2. Overfilling the cooker – Many people fill the pressure cooker completely in order to be in a hurry or to cook more food at once, but this can be very dangerous. When food is cooked, it swells and does not get enough space to expand, which can also block the way for steam to escape. This creates a lot of pressure inside the cooker, which can later cause a blast. To avoid this problem, the cooker should always be filled only to about two-thirds of its capacity and especially foaming foods like pulses should be cooked in even less quantity, so that the steam comes out easily and the pressure remains at a safe level.
3. Not cleaning the whistle – The whistle of the cooker i.e. the pressure release valve is a very important part. If dirt or food particles get stuck in it, it does not work properly. Due to this, steam is not able to come out, the pressure inside the cooker increases and the risk of the cooker bursting increases. Therefore, clean the whistle thoroughly after every use and do not leave any blockage in the vent pipe.

4. Adding less water – Some people think that by adding less water the food will cook faster, but this thinking is wrong and dangerous. Due to this, the food can burn, the cooker can become too hot, the internal temperature becomes unbalanced and the risk of blast increases. In such a situation, add enough water as per each food item and do not try to cook it dry.
5. Using a very old or damaged cooker – An old cooker can also be a cause of danger. With time its body, lid and lock system become weak. Due to this, the lid does not lock properly, cracks may appear in the body, the ability to bear pressure reduces and the whistle does not work properly. In such a situation, replace the old and damaged cooker. Buy a new cooker from a good company. Keep checking from time to time.
