Mohsin Naqvi legal action: Pakistan Super League pales in comparison to the shine of IPL and contracts worth crores. When stars like Muzarabani and Dasun Shanaka left PSL midway and moved to India, PCB Chief Mohsin Naqvi was furious. Naqvi has made it clear that now 'legal action' will be taken against the players who betray and they will have to face heavy fine. Will PSL be able to survive in this money war?

Naqvi said that his legal team is looking into the matter.

New Delhi. The war between Pakistan Super League and the world's richest cricket league IPL has now moved from the field to the legal corridors. Pakistan Cricket Board Chairman Mohsin Naqvi made it clear in the press conference on Sunday that the board will take 'strict legal action' against the players who are leaving the PSL contract midway and moving to India's Indian Premier League.

The latest controversy is regarding Zimbabwe's fast bowler Blessing Muzarabani and Sri Lanka's T20 captain Dasun Shanaka. Muzarabani has left Islamabad United and joined Kolkata Knight Riders. At the same time, Dasun Shanaka, an important member of Lahore Qalandars, has left for India to play for Rajasthan Royals. The interesting thing is that both these players have been called by IPL teams as replacements. Muzarabani has been included in the team in place of Mustafizur Rahman (out after BCCI order) and Shanaka has been included in the team in place of injured Sam Curran. After the brilliant performance in the 2026 T20 World Cup, the demand for these players had increased a lot in the IPL.

Naqvi said that his legal team is looking into the matter.

Action will be taken as per rules: Mohsin Naqvi
During the press conference, Mohsin Naqvi said in a strict tone, 'Yes, 2-3 players have left the league and we are taking legal action against them. Last year also a similar case (Corbin Bosch) came to light and this time too we will take action as per the rules. Naqvi mentioned last year's case of South African all-rounder Corbin Bosch, who broke his contract with Peshawar Zalmi and joined Mumbai Indians. Then PCB had banned him for one year from playing PSL.

IPL vs PSL, war of money
IPL has always been the first choice for cricketers around the world, because the contracts available there are much more attractive than PSL. Although there is a kind of 'shadow ban' on Pakistani players in the IPL, foreign players often leave the Pakistani league midway for financial gain. Naqvi completely rejected the idea that PSL's schedule clashing with IPL was having any impact on its popularity. He argued, 'Clash with IPL is not an issue. If some players are going there, we are also getting excellent 'Category A' players who would never have come here before.

PSL without fans and limited to just two cities
Another big and shocking aspect of this press conference was that Mohsin Naqvi announced big cuts regarding the organization of PSL. Originally scheduled to be held in 6 cities, this tournament has now been limited to only Lahore and Karachi. Not only this, due to security or other reasons, there will be a ban on the arrival of spectators in the first few matches. Questions are being raised on the credibility of PSL due to the empty stadium and players leaving, but Naqvi believes that through 'legal action' they will be able to give a strong message to such players in future.
