iPhone Cyber Attack Campaign: If you have an old iPhone or you are using an old version of iOS on your iPhone, then you should be careful. Many companies including Google and Lookout have detected a new cyber attack campaign DarkSword, which is targeting users using old iPhones and older versions of iOS (from 18.4 to iOS 18.7). The researcher says that this threat has been running since November, 2025 and it is being used by commercial vendors as well as scammers working with governments.
Users from these countries are at greater risk
Through this campaign, users from countries like Saudi Arabia, Turkey, Malaysia and Ukraine are being targeted more. Various loopholes are being used to gain access to eligible devices. Malicious website is being used to install malware in the user's phone. Once installed in the user's phone, this malware collects all the sensitive information and then erases all its evidence within a short time. The researcher has termed this strategy of stealing data as 'hit and run'.
Russian group behind hacking
Security firm Lookout claims that Russian hacking group UNC6353 is behind this campaign. This group has already breached iOS. This group's Coruna tool targeted iPhones running iOS 13-iOS 17.
According to the report, in the earlier attack the malware was spread through a fake website that looked like Snapchat. Trusting Snapchat, users would click on it and with one click the malware would get installed on the device and start working.
