Nuwan Thushara drags Sri Lanka Cricket Board to court

New Delhi: Sri Lankan fast bowler Nuwan Thushara has dragged his Sri Lankan Cricket Board to court. Thushara was refused IPL NOC by the Sri Lanka Cricket Board after he failed the fitness test before IPL 2026. The 31-year-old player, who was bought by Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) in the IPL, has filed a case in the Colombo District Court seeking an order to issue NOC to Sri Lanka Cricket (SLC). The hearing of this case will be held on April 9.

Failed the fitness test intentionally?
According to local media reports, the player, who has played 30 T20 International matches for his country since 2022, has argued that his contract with SLC had expired on March 31 and he does not want to extend it further. Thushara said that he had informed SLC about his desire to end his international career, adding that in such a situation the decision of not granting NOC due to failing in the fitness test should be set aside by the court.

RCB bought it in the auction for 1.6 crores
SLC has made fitness test mandatory for selection in the national team. Thushara said that his fitness level was never found to be low and he had been allowed to play at a similar fitness level by SLC earlier also. Thushara was bought by RCB in 2025 for Rs 1.6 crore, he played one match for the team in the last season. So far, this fast bowler has taken a total of 174 wickets in 137 T-20 matches at an average of 21.25.
