Meta AI Feature: Mark Zuckerberg’s company Meta has taken a big step regarding the online safety of children. Now parents will be able to see on which subjects their children are asking questions from Meta AI. This new feature has been implemented on Instagram, Facebook and Messenger. Its purpose is to give more control to parents so that they can better understand the digital activities of their children.
How will the new feature work?
Meta has added a new tab called Insights under this update which is part of the Supervision Hub. This feature is currently launched in United Kingdom, United States, Canada, Brazil and Australia and will soon be released worldwide. Through this Insights tab, parents will be able to know about what common topics their children are interacting with Meta AI.
This may include topics like health, well-being, travel, lifestyle, entertainment and studies. If parents want, they can also click on each category and see information about sub-topics related to it, such as topics related to fashion or food and drink within lifestyle.
Privacy was also taken care of
Meta says that this feature has been designed keeping in mind the privacy of children. Parents will not be shown the entire chat of their children but will only be told about which topics they talked about. This will allow parents to get an idea of their children’s interests and concerns without directly interfering in their personal conversations.
According to the company, this update makes parental controls stronger. Like the existing features, now parents can set screen time limits, schedule breaks and can also see who their children have been talking to in the last few days.
Meta’s focus on teen safety
Meta has been continuously taking steps for the safety of teenagers for some time. The company had earlier also planned to bring such features through which parents can block some content or characters related to AI.
Earlier this year, Meta banned some AI characters, especially those who behaved like celebrities, such as Paris Hilton and Snoop Dogg. This decision came at a time when the company was accused of not taking adequate steps to protect teenagers. This new feature of Meta is being considered an important step towards strengthening the safety of children in the digital world, which will help parents to keep a better eye on the online activities of their children.
