Google and Nvidia are also engaged in similar preparations. Now scientists have issued a warning regarding this. He says that due to the ever increasing number of satellites in space, observation from telescopes around the world will become difficult. This means that even the strongest telescopes installed on Earth will not be able to see the activities happening in space.
This fear is being expressed due to rising satellites
European Southern Observatory (ESO) says that the number of satellites has increased rapidly in the last few years. Starlink alone has 10,400 satellites revolving around the Earth. Before 2022, the total number of satellites present in space was 14,450. Now companies are planning to launch even more satellites. Scientists say that this is just the beginning of a big problem. Explaining its impact, ESO researchers said that if the situation continues, Europe’s Very Large Telescope (VLT) installed in Chile will lose 28 percent of its field of view. That means it will be able to do 28 percent less observations than before. This will happen when the satellites to be launched in future are not visible from Earth. If they are brightened then its effect can be greater.
What is the solution to this?
It is worth noting that ESO is not talking about banning the launching of satellites to solve this problem. It says that a limit of one lakh satellites should be set in Low Earth Orbit (LEO). This will maintain balance between global connectivity and astronomy. The researcher also says that the brightness of the satellite also has a lot of impact. Bright satellites emit more light and this has a greater impact on the pictures taken through the telescope.
