Salman Aga was run out in the second ODI

New Delhi: Marylebone Cricket Club (MCC), the guardian of cricket rules, has said that there was no problem in the way Mehdi Hasan dismissed Salman Aga. There was a lot of controversy over the run out of Pakistan's Salman Ali Aga by Bangladesh's Mehdi Hasan Miraz in the second ODI of the three-match series, which the MCC has now said was a completely correct decision under the rules.

This controversial incident happened in the 39th over when Mohammad Rizwan played the ball straight towards the bowler. After a slight collision with Mehdi, Agha came out of the crease thinking the ball was 'dead' and bent down to pick up the ball, but Mehdi picked up the ball and hit it on the stumps. At that time Agha was far out of the crease. MCC said in its statement, “As per the rules, the umpire had no other option. The non-striker (the batsman standing near the bowling end) was clearly out of the crease. When the ball was thrown on the wicket, he was part of the game. In such a situation, it was out.”

MCC also said that Agha had left the crease while the ball was in play and was trying to return after the collision. He said, “No batsman should try to pick up the ball without the permission of the fielding team. Doing so runs the risk of being out under 'Obstructing the Field'. The batsman should have used that time to return to the crease.”

Agha was out after scoring 64 runs in this match. He threw away the helmet and gloves in anger. The International Cricket Council reprimanded him and also gave him one demerit point for a level one breach of the code of conduct. The MCC also rejected the suggestion that the ball should have been declared a 'dead ball'.

The ball does not become dead due to collision between players – MCC

He said, “A collision between players alone does not make the ball dead. If that were to happen, players would try to deliberately collide for an advantage. There was no serious injury here and it was not clear that all players had considered the ball out of play, as Mehdi was considering it to be in play.” Despite this controversy, Pakistan won this match by 128 runs under the Duckworth-Lewis method.
