IPL management will hold a meeting of captains in Mumbai on Wednesday. In this, many issues will be discussed three days before the start of the 19th season of the tournament. It covers a number of topics including the innings timer and ball replacement rules. The main focus of discussion could be clarification on the two bouncer rule, bat inspection, ball replacement, use of saliva and the retired-out provision.

When the ball is lost or deemed unfit for play: Understand the rules
If the ball is lost, not recovered or is deemed unfit for play due to normal wear and tear. In such a situation, the umpire will replace it with another ball of the same level of wear. The batsman and fielding captain will be informed about this change. In evening matches, the team bowling the second innings is allowed to request a change of ball once after the 10th over. This can be done at the end of the over by the captain.
This rule applies only once in the second innings, regardless of dew conditions. The umpire will make changes with a ball of the same level of wear and can change the ball at any time of the match as per his wish. If the umpire changes the ball before the 10th over due to it being wet, out of shape, lost or damaged. In such a situation, the fielding captain will have the right to change the ball even after the 10th over and the umpire will have to give this permission.
If the captain requests a change after the 11th over due to the ball being wet. If the umpire agrees, then after five or six overs the captain can again request to change the ball. But at that time whether to allow changing the ball or not will depend on the discretion of the umpire.
