Romain Powell criticized the umpire

New Delhi: After the defeat against Lucknow Supergiants, Kolkata Knight Riders player Rovman Powell vented his anger on the umpire. In the match, the umpire controversially declared KKR’s Finn Allen out. Criticizing the umpires’ ‘errors’ during the match, Powell also blamed the slow pitch at Eden Gardens for his team’s close defeat. LSG’s score was 127 runs for seven wickets after 16 overs but they won by three wickets with the help of young batsman Mukul Chaudhary’s unbeaten inning of 54 runs.

Powell told reporters after the match, “You want to make Eden Gardens your fortress. This is your home ground and you get the support of the spectators. It feels good to take advantage of playing on home ground but credit goes to this young player (Mukul). He batted very well. KKR has not got a single win in four matches. He has played three of these matches on his home ground.

Digvesh Rathi took the catch of Finn Allen at the boundary.

Batting first against LSG, despite a good start, it could only score 181 runs for four wickets. In this match, its opening batsman Finn Allen (09) was out controversially. The ball which took the upper edge of Allen’s bat was caught by Digvesh Rathi standing on the boundary line of deep third man. Replays showed that his toes had touched the boundary. But on-field umpires Adrian Holdstock (South Africa) and Akshay Totre (India) did not take the help of the third umpire and declared the catch clean.

“Absolutely other factors should have been considered,” Powell said. When he came out of the field we talked about it. We have seen in the IPL that umpires have been taking the help of the third umpire for even small things. He said, “Maybe it was a mistake on their part, but we are not going to investigate it and say that because of this we lost two points tonight.”

Batting on the Eden Garden pitch was difficult – Powell

Powell said that it is not so easy to make strokes on this pitch. He said, “It was not like the traditional wicket of Eden Gardens where you come to the crease and bat furiously. This was not a 220-run wicket. The bowlers were getting some help, especially when they used slower balls.

KKR now have just one point from four matches, which they got from the match against Punjab Kings on Monday which was abandoned due to rain, but Powell is hopeful of improving the situation. He said, “If you look at history, IPL winners find their rhythm in the middle and final stages of the tournament. It is not easy to win when the start is not good, we still have 10 matches to play and our future is in our hands.
