New Delhi. Kolkata Knight Riders on Tuesday took a big decision in honor of their legendary player Andre Russell. The team has retired his number-12 jersey. This means that now no other player in KKR will be able to wear the number 12 jersey in future. The franchise has given this honor considering Russell's contribution over the years. Russell became emotional when he was honored in a special program called 'Nights Unplugged' in the presence of thousands of fans and the entire team. KKR CEO Venky Mysore presented a framed jersey to Russell on the stage and announced that from now on no KKR player will wear the number 12 jersey.
Let us tell you that before the auction for IPL 2026, Russell had made everyone emotional by releasing a video. He had said, 'My heart beats only for Kolkata.' Russell had said that if he plays IPL, it will be only for KKR, otherwise he will not play. He kept his promise and now instead of a player, he will be seen in the new role of 'power coach' of the team. Russell was a part of KKR's title wins in 2014 and 2024.
